I translate web pages (or Corporate Design documents) into the German1 and English language while optimising for search engines. Source languages may be French, German or English.
Translation includes transscribing the cultural context, not just words and sentences. Every cultural region has its own idiosyncrasies that need to be taken into account, terms have different connotations. For example, translating a French site into German may require to leave some French expressions to give it the 'French touch', which has a connotation of sophistication and good taste in Germany. This would not work the other way around. And it works only for food, design goods and cultural products, whereas it would not work for mechanics or services.
